The 2016 Olympics are going to Rio de Janeiro, putting the games in South America for the first time. Rio beat surprise finalist Madrid in the last round of voting. (Oct. 2)

The International Olympic Committee is set to decide whether Madrid, Chicago, Tokyo, or Rio de Janeiro will host the Olympic Games in 2016. The four cities have each made a strong push to ensure they are chosen, with world leaders even traveling to Copenhagen in Denmark to make the pitch in person. And that includes the president of Brazil, who has been marketing his country as the perfect backdrop for the Games. Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo has more.
