can i play for the 2012 Olympics if i live in a different country from the country i want to play for?

hi i moved to france and got into a sport called handball (the team handball) i have come good at it and my trainer said that i could play for england in the 2012 olympics is it possible

    You can play for England in 2012 Olympics provided that you didnt represent France in international tournaments prior to 2012 Olympics. individual athlete(s) playing for individual event(s) are allowed to do that but a player in team competition such as basketball, volleyball, handball and other team sports are no longer allowed to switch countries once he/she already represented another country in the past Olympics

    Yao Ming can’t represent US anymore because he already represented China in 2004 Olympics. Patrick Ewing didnt played for Jamaica, his country of birth because he already represented USA in 1984 Olympics.

    I believe if you get your dual citizenship you can then play for which every country you got that citizenship for

    Yes, two people I know do it in archery. One is a greek citizen and the other canadian. Both live here in the US.

    Actually, didn’t Yao Ming play for China? There are a few other NBA players that played for their countries while living here in the US.

    You would have to talk to the Olympic Handball Federation or whatever it’s called. There have been cases where a countries federation has bared a person from competing for another country though; so that would be your best bet to start.
